Short Story Post - Lather and Nothing Else vs. Testing of Human Knowledge
Testing of human knowledge is something we do in our everyday lives, whether its taking a test in school, doing a cross word puzzle or even questioning people to see if they will give truthful information. This is exactly the situation in the story Lather and Nothing Else because as Captain Torres said, "They told me you would kill me. I came to find out if it was true. But it's not easy to kill. I know what I am talking about." This quote explains how the Captain was testing the barber to see if he would kill him because they were enemies. In the photo that I have attached the wording at the bottom says "TEST YOURSELF" and in the speech bubble says "Oh, no-o-o! Not a test!" A test could also be given to a person like and act as an unexpected obstacle that you need to over come. Most people don't like being tested unknowlingly but that's a part of life, everyday we are quizing ourselves for example solving arrising problems in the workplace and thinking of the best solution possible. This problem also accured in the story Lather and Nothing Else for instance "But I wished he had not come in. Probably many of our men had seen him enter the shop. And with the enemy in my house I felt a certain responsiblity." People like to test others to sometimes get into other peoples minds or to "read" personalities of others. One experience I had with this is my mom, my brother told her I was going to my friends house. She asked me afterwards where I'd gone and I told her my friends house, but she told me she saw me hanging out at the mall. So she tested me and I failed and ended up getting in trouble. That goes to also show that with testing of other peoples minds comes trust and the hope that people will tell you the truth. For finding out that someone told you a lie could be very hurtful depending on what the subject is.
